“I love you.” It isn’t enough. Her sad eyes stare in to my own as she sighs and then looks away.

“It’s not working.” It could. We could make it work. I’d give up anything for you, even my job.

“We could-“

“No!” She shouts, tears filling in her closed eyes. “We can’t get through this. There is no getting around it. We’re different. We have different worlds.”

“I could change.” I argue, defiantly kneeling beside her, trying to force her to look at me one last time in the hope that it will make everything ok.

She opens her eyes and takes in my tear stained face and pleading look and I see her heart break in her eyes. It isn’t easy for her to let me go. “Then you wouldn’t be you anymore.”

There’s nothing I can say to object to that. If either of us change then we won’t be the person the other fell in love with, if neither of us change then we’ll lose each other. Catch 22.

“Maybe we could leave all of this behind. Start fresh somewhere.” I suggest in a last desperate attempt to keep her with me, but she shakes her head and stands up, ready to walk out of my life for good.

“Could you really leave all of this behind Kimmie?” She gestures around my room. “Your family, your friends, your commitments? The answer’s no. Goodbye Kim.”

“Shego wait!” I’m clinging to her waist, not allowing her to get any closer to the window and I can feel her giving in to my touch, but only for a moment. She knows the right thing to do, just like me; only she has the confidence to do it. She pushes me away and stands staring out of the window, not facing me as she says her final piece.

“If we stay together then Global Justice will see you as a traitor. You’ll lose your hero status, your friends, maybe even your family. They wouldn’t understand this princess. It has to end now. For your sake.”

“Please.” I can’t lose her. I won’t give up the best thing I’ve ever had. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” The last words she says to me before leaving through the window in to the cold night. For the first occasion in a long time Shego’s done the right thing, something noble and selfless. And in doing so she’s left me utterly alone in a house full of people who love me. But it doesn’t matter how much they care or how much they love me. They’re not Shego.

End.
